Hero of Notre-Dame Fire The Guardian reports that the Parisian fire brigade's chaplain, Jean-Marc Fournier, refused to remain outside the burning building, and insisted on joining in a human chain to rescue the religious relic. (The faithful believe that the artifact contains actual pieces of the crown worn by Jesus Christ ahead of his crucifixion.) Devout Catholics and art historians alike breathed a sigh of relief last night, when it was announced that the Crown of Thorns had survived the fire that consumed Notre-Dame Cathedral. This morning, the touching story of how it was saved came to light. "Father Fournier is an absolute hero," an emergency worker said, Newsweek. "He showed no fear all as he made straight for the relics inside the cathedral, and made sure they were saved. He deals with life and death every day, and shows no fear." And this isn't even the first time Fournier has shown his courage. Following the attack on the Bataclan in 20, Fournier prayed for those lost and tended to the injured. He also previously served in the French armed forces for years, which included time in Afghanistan. The safety of Crown of Thorns, as the cathedral's "most precious and most venerated relic," in the words of Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo, was of chief concern. However, several other important relics have reportedly survived, as well. According to the Guardian, the tunic of Saint Louis and the True Cross and Holy Nails have all survived the blaze. Sadly, not everything made it - and authorities will likely be tallying the losses in the days in weeks to come. |

Between 326 and 328, St. Helena, mother of the Emperor Constantine, traveled to the Holy Land to search for sites and relics associated with the life, death and resurrection of Jesus. The cross, the nails, the tunic of Christ, and a rope used to tie him to the cross were recovered. Whether or not these were all genuine is another question, but any consideration of these relics begins with Helena. In other words, we may not be able to prove that these are relics of Christ, but we can certainly come close to proving they are the relics recovered by St. Helena.

There are perhaps 36 nails in various churches with claims to be the real thing. Obviously, they can't all be, but it's possible that they're not all blatant frauds either. There is a middle ground, which we'll consider in due course.

When evaluating relics of the Holy Nails, a piece of archeological evidence provides useful data. In 1968, three tombs were uncovered in an area called Givʿat ha-Mivtar (or Ras el-Masaref). Excavated by V. Tzaferis, of the Israeli Department of Antiquities and Museums, Tomb I included an ossuary for a young man named Yehohanan ben ḤGQWL (Yehoḥanan son of Hagkol). Inside were the bones of an adult male, age 24-28, and a child. The adult’s tibiae and fibulae had been intentionally broken, and both calcanei (heel bones) were pierced by a nail that was still in place. Following forensic examination of the remains, Tzaferis called it “undoubtedly a case of crucifixion.” Based on other evidence, he speculated that it was either a rebel executed during the census revolt of AD 7, or some other first-century crucifixion.

The feet were joined almost parallel, both transfixed by the same nail at the heels, with the legs adjacent; the knees were doubled, the right one overlapping the left; the trunk was contorted; the upper limbs were stretched out, each stabbed by a nail in the forearm. A study of the nail itself, and of the situation of the calcanean bones between the head and the top of this nail, shows that the feet had not been securely fastened to the cross. This assumption requires the addition of the traditional “sedecula” … intended to provide a secure seating for the buttocks of the victim, to prevent collapse and to prolong agony. (From Israeli Exploration Journal 20, quoted in Joseph A. Fitzmyer, To Advance the Gospel: New Testament Studies)

I firmly believe it was perpetrated by Muslims... The MSM has not reported how many French Churches have been desecrated in the last week leading up to Easter and that fucking Macron would order it covered up.
