Lamestream at it AGAIN I have always admired, lusted for, held in highest esteem and awe Shaun White. So if you're not in the mood for a rant against our lamestream media's latest tempest in a tea cup here's where you may stop reading and proceed on to other blogs. As soon as it happened I knew there would be sanctimonious people aghast at his momentary absent-minded error. After winning the gold medal in the men’s halfpipe with a dramatic final-round ore of 97.75, Shaun White did what most Olympic athletes do: He hugged people, he celebrated, he cried and was then handed an American flag. Unfortunately for White, the flag ended up being the only part of his performance that went awry . As White passed the flag to his right hand, the hand in a glove that was clutching his snowboard, the flag ended up on the ground briefly being drug through the snow while he walked off the hill. This was quite obviously an unintentional oversight, and not meant in any way to be disrespectful. Could he have taken more time, thought, and careful action and consideration to care for our Nations Colors and prevent such a mistake, absolutely. Do I think that it warrants this amount of fuss, absolutely not. The people complaining are the s who would complain that they didn't like the color if they were presented a free car. The man just slayed at his craft and won a gold medal for himself, and our Country, for goodness sakes. Perhaps they can give him a pass for being absent-minded, triumphant, thankful, emotional, relieved, physiy spent, freezing cold, and emotionally overwhelmed and give him the benefit of the doubt, considering that if it were them I dare say that they could have accomplished all of that, and been mindful of every aspect of every action at that same time either. Shaun has always stood proud when the national anthem's been ed honoring our nation with his achievements. He didn't realize he was dragging it. The fact that he wanted to hold it while celebrating his win shows how much it means to him. There's a vast difference between absentmindedly dragging the flag in a moment of extreme euphoria then intentionally defacing it. Unlike some over paid thugs the lamestream media ogled attempting to raise as a "model" for American athletes. |

Nothing wrong with pointing out proper etiquette, but I don't agree with getting angry over it.

Intent is what matters most, and there was no intent here

Just a mistake committed in the heat of the moment.

This win was 8 years in the making, give the guy a break, and congratulate him on a super performance.

I agree with you Bret. It must have been a slow news day for the media to exaggerate a story like this.

So lame the media to spill milk over a non issue!

I agree - Much ado about nothing. A momentarily lack of concentration after an emotional moment is easy to forgive.
